Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) has partnered with distributor Versatile Packaging and retailer Newell Stores, to launch the first kp Infinity Top Seal food to go packaging solution in Ireland.
The family owned supermarket chain, which serves approximately 10,000 hot meals weekly through its deli counters, has become the first retailer in Ireland to adopt the fully recyclable Infinity Top Seal packaging system.
Offering an alternative to the now banned, single use EPS (polystyrene) packaging, the solution combines EPP based (polypropylene) trays with a high performance sealing film, creating a secure, consumer friendly and tamper evident pack that maintains food quality, while prioritising recyclability.
‘We explored the market to try and find the right product, and kp Infinity Top Seal just really hit the nail on the head,’ explained Colin Conway, director at Newell Stores. ‘It does everything we need it to – sealing takes just a couple of seconds, keeping our queues moving. Importantly, it helps maintain the exceptional quality that Newell Stores is known for. Being first in Ireland to integrate this fully recyclable solution is important to us, and it ticks all the boxes.’
Designed to combine recyclability with a consumer experience, the solution offers superior thermal properties, resistance to moisture and alkalis to prevent leaks, and microwaveability for added consumer convenience. Its EPP based design means that, at the end of its life, it can be recycled in conventional PP waste streams.
Jonathan Baldwin, key account manager at kp, added: ‘Seeing kp Infinity Top Seal successfully launched in Newell Stores shows the fantastic potential of this technology, and the expertise of our team. From regulatory changes to consumer demand, retailers are experiencing pressure on a number of fronts, and there is a clear drive towards circularity. However, this can’t come at the cost of performance or quality. The kp Infinity Top Seal design shows how to achieve that ideal balance and is a great example of our ‘Packaging with Integrity’ ethos in action.’
